Telegraph revolution will put 55 out of work
Thursday 23 October A tenth of the Telegraph's journalistic jobs are to go as part of Jason Seiken's "ongoing editorial transformation". Staff were told in a memo that those affected would be told in the news few days. Press Gazette reports today that casualties of the exercise are thought to include the Mandrake diary and its editor Tim Walker.
Fifty-five people are expected to lose their jobs in this round of cuts, which follows 80 redundancies last year. About 425 editorial posts have been lost at the group in the past nine years, but a number of "digital" jobs have been created.

Evans takes full command
Friday 17 October Chris Evans, the Telegraph's weekday editor, has been handed control of the group's editorial as director of content. His promotion is announced in a memo from Jason Seiken, who will remain "chief content officer" and editor-in-chief, but will now concentrate on strategy. In a further corruption of traditional titles, business chief Allister Heath and fellow deputy editor Robert Winnett, who oversees news, become deputy directors of content. All editorial staff, including weekend editor Ian MacGregor, will report to Evans, who will continue to answer to Seiken.

June 27: The Daily Telegraph has announced that it is creating forty jobs with a strong digital focus, but it has made less of the fact that many experienced and well-paid journalists are leaving. Deputy Editor Benedict Brogan and columnist Damian Thompson left a couple of weeks ago, now six sports staff - including chief sports correspondent Ian Chadband - are on the way out. Press Gazette reports that the business editor Tim Jotischky is going this week. The department has already had a big clear-out after several of the time joined former online editor Richard Fletcher when he moved to the Times as business editor.
The new jobs at the Telegraph are described as editorial, but they include engineers, web designers and SEO specialists.

The Telegraph increased profit by nearly £3m to £61.2m last year, in spite of falling circulation and a decline in turnover.
